Refraction is the process through which the optometrist determines the power of the spectacle lens that will compensate for the refractive error of the eye. This is what is called your prescription.

Your optometrist at Visual Eyes will often make use of a wavefront abberometer and corneal topography in the assessment of your eye's optical system.

Wavefront Abberometry

This machine allows us to measure the amount of distortion introduced to the light that enters the eye.

This distortion may come from the cornea, lens or the fluids in the eye.

Assessing these distortions will allow us to make the most informed decision to provide you with the best possible vision.

Corneal Topography

This machine allows us to measure the shape of the cornea, the transparent front portion of the eye, to fit specialised contact lenses such as orthokeratology or scleral gas permeable lenses.

This also allows for better fitting of the original gas permeable contact lenses or RGPs
